Experience

In 1998-2000 I joined the Electromagnetic and Photonic Engineering Group of the Signal Theory and Communications Department (ETSETB, UPC, Barcelona, Spain) as a doctorate student. My current research interests were fractal and wideband printed antennas.

Senior Researcher at Sistemas Radiantes F. Moyano Madrid, Spain fall 1998. I was involved in the design of a Dual-Frequency Dual-Polarized Fractal-Shaped microstrip patch array for GSM900 and GSM1800 communications systems.

R&D Manager at Fractus, Barcelona, Spain Dec-1999-to date. I am directing projects in the area of multifrequency and miniature monopoles; dual-frequency dual-polarized microcell antennas; monoband dual-polarized microstrip patch array; dual-band dual-polarized microstrip patch arrays; network feeding architectures for GSM-UMTS arrays; broadband matching networks; high cross-polarization techniques, array pattern synthesis with genetic algorithms, handset antennas, automotion antennas and antennas for military applications among others.

R&D Manager at Fractus, Republic of Korea. September 2003-June 2004. On one hand, I was leading the design and development of miniature and multiband antennas for handset phones. I have been leading an interdisciplinary engineering korean team (electrical and mechanical engineers). On the other hand, I was in charge of setting up the technology group. In Korea, I developed handset antenna projects for Samsung, LG, Bellwave, Innostream, Innolinx,  EzzeTech, and Pantech-Curitel mobile-phone companies. From June 2004 to May 2006 I have been supporting Fractus-Korea R&D activities as well as handset antenna product development.

         PRIZES

1998 European Information Technology Grand Prize

In 1997, the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya through the Electromagnetics & Photonics Engineering group (EEF) and the company SistemasRadiantes F.Moyano S.A. signed up a R+D agreement to develope fractal-shaped multiband antennas for the GSM and DCS cellular telephone systems. At the present time, two dual antennas for micro-picocell environments have been already developed. The first one, the FractusTM MSPK antenna is a ceiling-mounting omnidirectional antenna with the same basic electromagnetic behavior (radiation pattern and input parameters) at the GSM (890MHz-960MHz) and DCS (1710MHz-1880MHz) bands. The second one, the FractusTM Panel-01 is a wall-mounting sectorial-pattern patch antenna, which also fulfills the requirements of the DCS and GSM systems simultaneously. The antennas have been  awarded with the European Information Technology Grand Prize 1998 !

IV Premis Salvà i Campillo (1998), Special recognition of the jury for being awarded with the European Information Technology Prize 1998 related to the Fractal Antennas project.

2003 Finalist to the Best Doctoral Thesis (Fractal and Broadband Techniques on Miniature, Multifrequency, and High-Directivity Microstrip Patch Antennas) (Ph.D) on UMTS.  This prize has been promoted by “Technology plan of UMTS promotion” given by Telefónica Móviles España.
